In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) is a California program that helps eligible children or adults with disabilities remain safely at home by providing funding for in-home care services.

Through IHSS, a parent, relative, or approved caregiver may be compensated for providing essential care services. In many cases, caregivers can receive up to $6,000 per month for authorized support hours.

1. ELIGIBILITY
The individual must be a California resident, qualify for Medi-Cal, and have a disability or special need requiring assistance with daily living activities. County social workers assess needs and determine authorized service hours.

2. BECOMING A PROVIDER
Individuals, including parents, may become approved IHSS providers by completing the county enrollment process, including orientation, fingerprinting, a background check, and signing the required provider agreement.

3. SERVICES PROVIDED
Providers will be paid for providing authorized services such as personal care, paramedical services, transportation, and protective supervision.

4. APPEALS & ADVOCACY
If services are denied or you’re approved for fewer hours than needed, you have the right to appeal. We can represent you through the fair hearing process before a judge.
